WinEx DE is very easy to learn and use:  you simply use the digitizer pen to trace in the existing and finished grade elevations for contours / topos and spot elevations.  WinEx DE will help you calculate volumes and material quantities for parking lots, building pads and roads, along with topsoil stripping and site soil shrink / swell percentages.  WinEx DE also lets you automatically "balance" the site.  In addition, WinEx DE gives you detailed take-offs for pipe and trenching for sewer, water, and storm drain work.
